Reaction Steps
In a round bottom flask, 1-(4-methoxy-benzyl)-1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester (104, 28.5 g, 93.6 mmol) was combined with 100 mL of water and 20 mL of 1,4-dioxane. Sulfuric acid (5.5 mL, 100 mmol) and 2.0 mL of water were added and the reaction was stirred for 2 days at 60-70° C. The reaction was concentrated under vacuum until a precipitate formed. The solid was collected by filtration and washed with cold water several times to provide the desired compound. 1H NMR was consistent with the compound structure.
