In a vial were placed methyl 6-cyano-7-(4-(3-iodophenylcarbamoyl)phenoxy)chroman-4-carboxylate (Preparation 3) (56 mg, 0.101 mmol), 2,3-dimethylphenylboronic acid (19.70 mg, 0.131 mmol), Na2CO3 (32.12 mg, 0.303 mmol), toluene (1 ml), and water (0.1 ml). The mixture was degassed with Argon for few minutes. Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (5.836 mg, 0.0050 mmol) was added and the vial was sealed. The mixture was stirred for 17 hours at 100° C. The crude mixture was purified on silica gel (EtOAc in hexanes gradient) to provide 34.4 mg of the title compound as a thin film (64%).
