Reaction Steps

6-Chloro-7-(4-(3-phenoxyphenethylcarbamoyl)phenoxy)chroman-4-carboxylic acid (56.4 mg, 0.104 mmol), 0.1 molar in tetrahydrofuran, was treated with sodium methanolate (207 μl, 0.104 mmol) at ambient temperature. After 20 minutes, the solvent was removed in vacuo. The resulting solid was taken up in ethyl acetate and concentrated in vacuo. The solid was taken up in 4:1 dichloromethane-hexanes and concentrated in vacuo and dried under high vacuum to provide sodium 6-chloro-7-(4-(3-phenoxyphenethylcarbamoyl)phenoxy)chroman-4-carboxylate (58.0 mg, 0.102 mmol, 98.8% yield) as a solid. MS (apci) m/z=543.9 (M+2H—Na).
