Sodium tetrahydroborate (2.8 mg, 0.074 mmol) was added to a mixture of tert-butyl {1-[5-chloro-3-(6-formylpyridin-3-yl)-2-methoxy-4-methylphenyl]ethyl}carbamate (20 mg, 0.05 mmol) in methanol (2 mL) at 0° C. The reaction was stirred for 1 h at 0° C. The reaction mixture was partitioned between water and EtOAc. The combined organic layers was washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to give crude product. This crude was used for next step.
