Reaction Steps

A mixture of compound 3 (9.7 g, 18 mmol), imidazole (1.4 g, 20 mmol), cuprous iodide (346 mg, 1.8 mmol), N, N-dimethyl glycine (374 mg, 3.6 mmol) and potassium carbonate (5 g, 36 mmol) in anhydrous DMSO (10 mL) was degassed three times applying vacuum and nitrogen and was immersed in to a preheated oil bath at 110° C. The reaction mixture was heated for 60 h. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate (150 mL) and filtered through a Celite pad. The filtrate was transferred to a reparatory funnel and was washed with water, brine and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was removed under vacuum to afford the crude product, which on purification by chromatography on SiO2 column eluting with 30% acetone in dichloromethane gave 7.6 g (91%) of required product 4 as a pale yellow solid.
