A solution of 7-nitro-2-methoxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindol-1-one (Compound 187B, 0.25 g, 1.2 mmol) in ethanol (5 mL) was hydrogenated over 5% Pd/C (30 mg) overnight at room temperature. The catalyst was filtered off by a glass filter paper and the filtrate was concentrated to give 0.18 g of the pure product (yield: 85%). 1H NMR (CDCl3, 600 MHz): δ=3.93 (s, 3 H), 4.48 (s, 2 H), 6.56 (d, J=8.5 Hz, 1 H) 6.63 (d, J=7.0 Hz, 1 H), 7.24 (dd, J=7.5, 8.5 Hz, 1 H).
