(2E)-(5-Methoxycarbonylfuran-2-yl)-2-methylpropenoic acid tert-butyl ester (2.96 g, 11.1 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (100 mL), 10% palladium/carbon (0.3 g) was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours under a hydrogen atmosphere. After completion of the reaction, palladium/carbon was removed by celite filtration, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (2.72 g).
