Reaction Steps

(3aR,4R,5R,6aS)-hexahydro-4-((S,E)-5-phenyl-3-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yloxy)pent-1-enyl)-5-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yloxy)cyclopenta[b]furan-2-one (14.0 g from Example 46) was dissolved in toluene (140 mL), followed by cooling to −70° C., and DIBAL (1.0M in Hexane, 45 mL) was added dropwisely. Then the reaction was quenched by adding saturated aqueous solution of ammonium chloride (10 mL) at −70° C. The resulting mixture was poured into 90 mL of a 2M sodium bisulfate aqueous solution at room temperature and stirring was continued for 30 minutes. After separation of the organic layers, 200 mL of toluene was added to the aqueous layer. The combined organic layers were concentrated under reduced pressure to give 18.0 g of crude title compound.
