3-(trifluoromethyl)benzoyl chloride 2 (4.5 mL, 30.2 mmol) was added to a suspension of 2-amino-3-nitrobenzoic acid 1 (5.0 g, 27.5 mmol) in pyridine (65 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 h then poured into ice cooled H2O (300 mL). The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, rinsed with H2O, and dried under vacuum to give 3 (5 g, 51% yield) as a yellow solid which was used without further purification.
