To crude meropenem trihydrate (10 g, prepared according to WO 2010/104336), was added cold (0° C.) methanol (40 ml). The mixture was stirred for 2 hours, while the temperature thereof was maintaining at −5 to 0° C. After filtering the slurry, the resulting solid was dried in vacuo at room temperature to give methanol solvate of meropenem (9.8 g, 98.0%).
