Reaction Steps

To a solution of 1-(2-methoxyethyl)-2-methyl-1H-imidazole (Preparation 146, 604 mg, 4.31 mmol) in THF (8 mL), K2CO3 (119 mg, 0.86 mmol) was added and followed by N-Bromosuccinimide (652 mg, 3.66 mmol). The suspension was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours, diluted with brine and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was collected and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound as a yellow oil (219 mg, 26%) that was used directly in the next reaction.
