To a solution of 2.64 g (9.7 mmol) of 4,4-dimethyl-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6[(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]quinoline (Compound 2) in 200 ml of methanol was added 0.269 g (1.95 mmol) of K2CO3The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 12 h. The reaction was then concentrated in vacuo and water was added to the residue. The aqueous layer was extracted with methylene chloride (2×). The organic layers were dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a white solid.
