Combined N-benzyl-6-hydrazinylnicotinamide (126 mg, 0.520 mmol) and ethyl 2-(4-cyanophenyl)-3-(dimethylamino)acrylate (127 mg, 0.520 mmol) in ethanol (10 mL) and stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was evaporated to give a residue which was dissolved in DCM (100 ml), extracted with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate (50 ml), dried with Na2SO4, and concentrated to a residue which was purified by chromatography (12 g SiO2, DCM-MeOH 0 to 10%) to give the title compound (90 mg, 39%) as an oil. MS m/z [M+H]+ 442.4.
