Reaction Steps
A mixture of methyl 2-(4-fluoro-6-hydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-3-yl)acetate (254 mg), a 1 M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (4.5 mL), and methanol (3 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. To the reaction mixture, 1 M hydrochloric acid (4.5 mL) was added, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with brine and then dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain the title compound (224 mg).
