To a flask containing (4-chloro-2-methoxy-3-(4-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)quinolin-6-yl)(2,4-dimethyloxazol-5-yl)methanol (960 mg, 2.01 mmol, Intermediate 11: step a) was added 1,4-dioxane (50 mL) followed by manganese dioxide (900 mg, 103 mmol) at room temperature. The mixture was heated to 85° C., for 60 minutes, and then the contents were filtered through Celite® while still warm and rinsed with THF. The solution was concentrated and the crude material was triturated with Et2O to afford the title compound as a white solid. The mother liquors were re-purified by chromatography on silica gel (2% MeOH-DCM increasing to 5% MeOH) to provide additional title compound.
