To a solution of 3-[[2-[5-chloro-1-(p-tolylsulfonyl)pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl]-5-fluoro-pyrimidin-4-yl]amino]cyclohexanol, 27a, (0.54 g. 1.05 mmol) in 20 ml CH2Cl2 was added Dess-Martin periodinane (0.62 g, 1.47 mmol). The suspension was stirred at room temperature for 6 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. The resulting residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (45% ethyl acetate/hexanes gradient) to afford 430 mg of the desired product.
