Following a procedure similar to that described in Example 1(b), but using 1.50 g of diethyl 1-[(2'-t-butoxycarbonylbiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]-2-butylimidazole-4,5-dicarboxylate [prepared as described in step (a) above] and 3.9 ml of diisobutylaluminum hydride (as a 1.5M solution in toluene), 1.1 g of the title compound was obtained as a gum.
