Following a procedure analogous to that for the synthesis of Intermediate 137, 4-(4-chlorophenoxy)aniline (Aldrich, 500 mg, 2.28 mmol) and butyraldehyde (230 mL, 2.50 mmol) were converted to the title compound (450 mg, 71%). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 7.34-7.16 (m, 2H), 6.99-6.84 (m, 4H), 6.72-6.62 (m, 2H), 4.19 (br s, 1H), 3.17 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 1.75-1.61 (m, 2H), 1.60-1.42 (m, 2H), 1.03 (t, J=7.4 Hz, 3H); MS(ESI+) m/z 275.8 (M+H)+.
