A solution of 462 mg of methyl 4-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)-2-methoxymethyl-1-{4-[2-(tetrazol-5-yl)phenyl]phenyl}methylimidazole-5-carboxylate [prepared as described in Example 82(b)] in 4 ml of a 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide was stirred at room temperature for 5 hours. At the end of this time, the insoluble matter was filtered off, and 4 ml of a 1N aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid were added to the filtrate. The resulting crystalline powder was then collected by filtration, to give 338 mg of the title compound, melting at 187° C. (with decomposition at 192°-195° C.).
