To a solution of 5-amino-3-(pyridine-3-yl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonitrile (300 mg, 1.62 mmol) in pyridine (4 mL)/H2O (1 mL) was added ethyl acrylate (325 mg, 3.24 mmol). The resulting mixture was stirred at 100° C. for 5 hours. After cooling to rt, the mixture was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by preparative-TLC to afford the desired product: MS (m/z): 286.0 [M+H]+.
