1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-propanol (3.2 g) was dissolved in THF (4.0 ml) and cooled to 0° C. Then LiH MDS (1M in THF; 28.3 ml) was added dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 20 minutes. A solution of 2-fluoro-3-nitro-pyridine (4.0 g) in THF (1 ml) was added and the mixture was stirred overnight. It was quenched by addition of saturated NH4Cl solution and extracted with dichloromethane. The organic layer was dried and concentrated in vacuo.
