BBr3 (1.25 g, 5.0 mmol) was added to a solution of 6-(4-Methoxy-phenyl)-4,7-dihydro-1-thia-4,5-diaza-cyclopenta[a]pentalene (0.13 g, 0.5 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (8.0 mL). After 2 hours, the solution was evaporated and washed with EtOAc, filtered, and concentrated to give the corresponding 4-(4,7-Dihydro-1-thia-4,5-diaza-cyclopenta[a]pentalen-6-yl)-phenol (0.11 g, 0.44 mmol) as brown solid in 88% yield.
