Reaction Steps
Tetrakis (triphenylphosphine) palladium (0) (54 mg, 0.046 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of 3-chloro-5-phenoxymethyl-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (130 mg, 0.47 mmol) and allyltri-n-butyltin (0.25 mL, 0.79 mmol) in degassed toluene (1.5 mL) under nitrogen. The mixture was stirred at 125° C. for 20 h. Then further tetrakis (triphenylphosphine) palladium (0) (54 mg, 0.046 mmol) and allyltri-n-butyltin (0.25 mL, 0.79 mmol) were added and the mixture was stirred at 125° C. for 16 h. The mixture was diluted with EtOAc, filtered through a diatomaceous earth pad. The filtrate was evaporated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by flash column chromatography (silica; EtOAc in DCM 0/100 to 100/0). The desired fractions were collected and the solvents evaporated in vacuo to yield 3-allyl-5-phenoxymethyl-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (111 mg, 84% yield) as a yellow oil.
