1-(2-Iodoethyl)-4-(phenoxymethyl)benzene (960 mg, 2.84 mmol) and ethyl 2-(methylsulfonyl)propanoate (512 mg, 2.84 mmol) were converted to the title compound (1.17 g, 106%) containing minor solvent impurities following the general procedure of step 2 in Preparation 2 for the formation of compound (1). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CHLOROFORM-d) δ ppm 1.22-1.31 (m, 3H) 1.68-1.75 (m, 3H) 2.16-2.27 (m, 1H) 2.45-2.59 (m, 2H) 2.69-2.85 (m, 1H) 2.89 (s, 3H) 4.21-4.33 (m, 2H) 5.01-5.09 (m, 2H) 6.94-7.01 (m, 2H) 7.21 (d, J=8.20 Hz, 1H) 7.26-7.33 (m, 4H) 7.36-7.46 (m, 2H).
