Reaction Steps

To a solution of (4-bromo-phenyl)-(8,8-dioxo-8-thia-bicyclo[3.2.1]oct-3-yl)-methanone (885 mg, 2.58 mmol) in THF (7 ml) at −10° C. to −8° C. was added methylmagnesium bromide 1.4M in toluene/THF 3/1 (3.68 ml, 5.16 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred for 30 min. The solution was cooled with an ice bath and quenched with a solution of aqueous saturated NH4Cl and water 1/1 (7.5 ml), diluted and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phases were combined, washed with brine, dried using Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product (940 mg, 2.54 mmol, 97%) was used in the next step without further purification.
