Reaction Steps

To the solution of 1-(5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-2-methyl-1H-imidazole (2 g, 8.3 mmol) in dried THF was added dropwise n-BuLi (2.5 M in hexane, 4 mL, 10 mmol) at −78° C., the mixture was stirred at −78° C. for 30 min. A solution of tributyltin chloride (4.6 g, 0.96 mmol) in THF was added dropwise, the solution was stirred at −78° C. for 1 hour, and the reaction solution was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 1 hour. The reaction solution was poured into NH4Cl aqueous solution, the mixture was extracted with EtOAc (100 mL×3). The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, then concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by column chromatography to give 2-methyl-1-(5-(tributylstannyl)thiophen-2-yl)-1H-imidazole as a yellow oil (1.2 g, yield 31.8%).
