Titanium(IV) ethoxide (2.119 mL, 10.14 mmol) was added to a solution of 6-bromo-2′,3′,5′,6′-tetrahydrospiro[indene-2,4′-pyran]-1(3H)-one (Intermediate 10, 1.14 g, 4.05 mmol) and 2-methyl-2-propanesulfinamide (0.688 g, 5.68 mmol) in 2-methyl-tetrahydrofuran (12 mL) and the resulting mixture was stirred at 70° C. overnight. When cooled to r.t., MeOH (1.5 mL), sat. aq. NaHCO3 (5 mL) and EtOAc (10 mL) were added. The mixture was stirred for 1 h, then filtered through diatomaceous earth. The filter cake was washed with EtOAc (3×10 mL). The combined organics were washed with brine (30 mL), dried over MgSO4, filtered, concentrated and purified on a silica gel column eluted with 0-40% EtOAc in heptane to give 545 mg (35% yield) of the title compound; 1 H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ ppm 8.54 (br. s., 1 H), 7.80 (dd, 1 H), 7.51 (d, 1 H), 3.88 (dd, 2 H), 3.51 (m, 2 H), 3.14 (s, 2 H), 1.38 (m, 2 H), 1.24 (m, 11 H), MS (ES+) m/z 384 [M+H]+.
