To a round-bottom flask was added a solution of methyl 4-cyclobutyl-2-ethyl-5-(5-ethyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)benzoate (compound 181.8, 360 mg, 1.15 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in methanol (20 mL). A solution of sodium hydroxide (460 mg, 11.5 mmol, 10.0 equiv) in water (10 mL) was added to the reaction mixture. The resulting solution was stirred at 25° C. for 15 h. The organic solvent was then removed under reduced pressure. The pH value of the remaining aqueous phase was adjusted to 2-3 with hydrogen chloride (aq., 2 M). The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and dried under high-vacuum to yield 320 mg (93%) of the title compound as a white solid.
