To a solution of methyl 4-cyclobutyl-5-(5-ethyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)-2-methylbenzoate (compound 445.2, 188 mg, 0.630 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in methanol (6 mL) was added aqueous sodium hydroxide (76.0 mg, 1.90 mmol, 3.00 equiv in 3 mL water). The resulting solution was stirred for 2 h at 70° C. in an oil bath. After cooling to ambient temperature, the mixtue was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was diluted with 20 mL of H2O. The pH of the mixture was adjusted to −4 with aqueous HCl (2 M). The mixture was then extracted with 3×20 mL of ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with 3×20 mL of brine, dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated under reduced pressure. This resulted in 0.180 g (crude) of the title compound as a yellow oil.
