A solution of 2-(3-nitrophenoxy)tetrahydro-2H-pyran (1.0 g, 4.5 mmol) in methanol (13 mL) was degassed with nitrogen (3×) and treated with 10% Pd/C (wet Degussa type) (12 mg). The reaction mixture was degassed and stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen at 25° C. for 2 h. The reaction mixture was filtered to give the desired product (0.87 g, quantitative) as a tan oil. LCMS for C11H16NO2 (M+H)+: m/z=194.0.
