Reaction Steps
A solution of 24.1 g (0.11 mol) of benzyl (L)-pyroglutamate, prepared according to Example II(1), in 200 ml of benzene is added over 11/2 hours to a suspension of 5.28 g (0.11 mol) of sodium hydride in 20 ml of dry benzene. After stirring for 1 hour at ordinary temperature, a solution of 22.1 g (0.11 mol) of 3,4-dimethoxybenzoyl chloride in 180 ml of benzene is run in.
