Procedure

When 3,5-bis(2,5,6-trimethyl-3-indolyl)-2(3H)-furanone is substituted for 3,5-bis(1-ethyl-2-methyl-3-indolyl)-2(3H)-furanone in part B of this example, there is obtained 3,5-bis-(2,5,6-trimethyl-3-indolyl)-2(5H)-furanone (Formula IV: R=H; R1 =CH3 ; Y=5,6-(CH3)2).
