Following a procedure similar to that described above in part A of this example except that 2,4-bis[1-(4-bromobenzyl)-2-isopropyl-3-indolyl]-4-oxobutanoic acid (prepared by the interaction of maleic anhydride and 1-(4-bromobenzyl)-2-isopropylindole in a similar manner to that described in Example 1, part A) is used in place of 2,4-bis(1-ethyl-2-methyl-3-indolyl)-4-oxobutanoic acid, there is obtained 3,5-bis[1-(4-bromobenzyl)-2-isopropyl-3-indolyl]-2(3H)-furanone (Formula II: R=4-BrC6H4CH2 ; R1 =(CH3)2CH; Y=H).
