To 0.9 g (2 mmol) 3-cyclopropyl-5-pyridin-3-yl-2-(4-trifluoromethoxy-phenyl)-3H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester in 5 ml of EtOH was added 0.4 ml of 6 M sodium hydroxide solution (2 mmol) and the mixture heated to reflux for 6 h. The solvent was then evaporated, affording 1.0 g (quant.) of the title compound as a white solid. MS: 390.1 (MH+).
