Reaction Steps

The compound 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylphenylacetic acid (164 mg, 0.74 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane and cooled to 0° C. Oxalyl chloride (64 μL, 0.74 mmol) was added, then after 5 min, N,N-dimethylformamide (5.7 μL, 0.07 mmol) was added. The reaction stirred at 0° C. for 30 min. and room temperature for 1 h. The solution was added slowly to a mixture of D1 (208 mg, 0.43 mmol) and triethylamine (182 μL, 1.30 mmol) in dichloromethane at −78° C. The mixture was stirred for 30 min., then washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate and brine. The organic extract was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting product was purified by chromatography (2% methanol with 0.1% ammonium hydroxide in dichloromethane), yielding 265 mg of 4.
