A solution of 2-(ethoxycarbonyl)-8-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro[1]benzofuro[2,3-c]pyridine-5-carboxylic acid (from step 7) (0.352 g, 1.1 mmol), 4-nitrophenol (0.229 g, 1.65 mmol), EDCl (0.253 g, 1.32 mmol) and 4-(N,N-dimethyl)aminopyridine (0.027 g, 0.22 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran was stirred overnight. Water was added to RM, extracted with ethyl acetate and org layer was concentrated after drying on anhy. Sod. Sulphate. The solid was chromatographed on silica gel to yield 4-nitrophenyl 2-(ethoxycarbonyl)-8-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro[1]benzofuro[2,3-c]pyridine-5-carboxylate.
