To the suspension of N-(3,5-dichloropyridin-4-yl)-2-(tert-butyloxycarbonyl)-6-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro[1]benzofuro[3,2-c]pyridine-9-carboxamide (from step 4) (600 mg) in dry diethyl ether (10 ml), ethyl acetate saturated with HCl (4 ml) was added and stirred overnight. Reaction mixture was concentrated and the residue obtained was stirred in dry diethyl ether and filtered. The solid obtained was further purified by refluxing in isopropanol overnight. Yield=400 mg
