A mixture of (±)-2-(hydroxymethyl)-6,8-dihydrospiro[cyclopenta[g]quinoxaline-7,3′-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin]-2′(1′H)-one from Step A (35 mg, 0.11 mmol) and manganese (IV) oxide (158 mg, 1.82 mmol) in CHCl3 (5 mL) and MeOH (0.1 mL) was heated at reflux for 18 h. The cooled mixture was filtered through a pad of Celite, washing with CH2Cl2 and MeOH, and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound. MS: m/z=358 (M+1+CH3CN).
