Reaction Steps
Bromine (160 μl, 3.12 mmol) was added dropwise to a stirred solution of triphenylphosphine (820 mg, 3.12 mmol) and imidazole (213 mg, 3.12 mmol) in dichloromethane (15 ml) at room temperature under nitrogen. A solution of the alcohol of Example 135 (1.12 g, 2.60 mmol) in dichloromethane (5 ml) was then added to the reaction. The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours, diluted with dichloromethane (50 ml), washed with brine (20 ml), dried over magnesium sulphate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel eluting with dichloromethane:methanol (98:2, by volume) to provide the title compound (969 mg) as a white foam.
