Reaction Steps

To a solution of sulfonamide mixtures 54 (3.11 g, 5.97 mmol) in methanol (30 mL) was added hydrazine (3.4 mL). The resulting solution was stirred at 25° C. for 2 hr. The mixture was partitioned between water (20 mL) and CH2Cl2 (20 mL). The aqueous layer was re-extracted with CH2Cl2. The organic extracts were combined, washed with brine and dried over MgSO4. The solution was filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give the crude product. The crude material was purified by preparative TLC to provide 4-(5-aminomethyl-naphthalene-1-sulfonylamino)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester 55 as a white solid.
