To 280 mg (0.80 mmol, 74% purity) 4-(benzyl-methyl-amino)-1-[2-(4-hydroxymethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-1H-pyridin-2-one (preparation 14c) in 5.0 mL of DCM is added at 0° C. 53 μL (0.56 mmol) phosphorus tribromide. The mixture is stirred overnight at RT and is diluted with aqueous NaHCO3-solution and water. The layers are separated and the organic phase is dried over MgSO4, filtered and the solvent is removed. The residue is used directly without further purification.
