To 100 mg (0.29 mmol) 1-[2-(4-hydroxymethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-4-(5-methyl-pyridin-2-ylmethoxy)-1H-pyridin-2-one (example 13.1a) in 5.0 mL of DCM is added 21 μL (0.23 mmol) phosphorus tribromide. The mixture is stirred 2 h at RT, diluted with DCM/MeOH and extracted twice with water. The organic phase is dried over MgSO4, filtered and the solvent is evaporated to afford the product.
