Acetic anhydride (13.9 ml) was added to a solution of interm. (5-c) (31.2 g) in toluene (300 ml) and the mixture was stirred and refluxed for 2 hours. The mixture was evaporated till dryness and the product was used without further purification, yielding 36.4 g (100%) of N-[2-(3-methoxybenzoyl)-4-[2-(4-chlorophenyl)-1,3-dioxolan-2-yl]phenyl]acetamide (interm. 5-d).
