Procedure

The acid prepared in Example 30 (2.0 g, 4.5 mmol) was dissolved into methanol (50 ml) and stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen for 1 h at room temperature in the presence of 10% palladium on carbon catalyst (65% aqueous paste) and then filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness leaving a solid residue which was recrystallised from a mixture of acetone and ethyl acetate to give 0.30 g (23%) of the title compound.
