Reaction Steps
34.7 g (0.75 mol) of methylhydrazine were added to a solution of 177 g (0.68 mol) of ethyl 3-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-5-methylphenyl)-3-oxopropionate in 500 ml of diethylene glycol. After 6 hours at 100° C., the mixture was poured into 4 l of water. The solids were subsequently removed and dried. Yield: 133 g; m.p.: 155-156° C.
