Dimethyl Carbonate → HCID 70218579, compound
Reaction equation
[C:1](=[O:6])([O:4]C)[O:2][CH3:3].[CH2:7]([N:9]1[CH2:13][CH2:12][N:11]=[C:10]1[CH3:14])[CH3:8]>>[CH3:3][O:2][C:1](=[O:4])[O-:6].[CH2:7]([NH+:9]1[CH2:13][CH2:12][N:11]([CH3:1])[CH:10]1[CH3:14])[CH3:8]Participants

Procedure
Furthermore, from JP-A-10 17,553 (Chem. Abstracts 128: 167423p) and from JP-A-10 17,554 (Chem. Abstracts 128: 167424q), it is known that N-alkylimidazolines are methylated by reaction with dimethyl carbonate on the nitrogen atom in the 3-position. Thus, the reaction of 1-ethyl-2-methylimidazoline with (MeO)2CO gives the product 1-ethyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolinium methyl carbonate in 98% yield.
