By the method used in Example 1, Part D, 1.25 g (3.8 mmol) of 1- ([1,1′-biphenyl]-3-ylmethyl)-4-methoxy-2-methyl-1H-indole was O-demethylated by creating it with 15.2 mL of 1M BBr3/CH2Cl2 to give 1.03 g (87% yield) of crude 1-([1,1′-biphenyl]-3-ylmethyl)-4-hydroxy-2-methyl-1H-indole.
