2,2,4-Trimethyl-1-cyclohexanecarbaldehyde (11 g, 72 mmole) in ether (100 ml) was added dropwise with stirring to a Grignard compound prepared from Mg (2.3 g) and allylbromide (10 g) in ether and refluxed for 2 h. After cooling, the mixture was hydrolyzed with NH4Cl-solution, then distilled at a bath temperature of 150°/0.5 hPa, to obtain 11.3 g (80%) of the desired product as a 2:1 mixture of 2 isomers.
