Reaction Steps

A suspension of sodium dichloromate dihydrate (7.5 g, 25 mmol) in 50 mL of acetic acid was heated to reflux and treated with acetic anhydride (6.6 g, 65 mmol). The reaction was stirred at reflux and treated portionwise with 3-acetylamino-5,6-dichloroacenapthene (1.4 g, 5.0 mmol, from Example E4). The reaction was refluxed for 5 hours, cooled to room temperature and poured into a mixture of ice and water. The resulting precipitate was removed by filtration, washed with water and dried in vacuo to give 1.2 g of the title compound.
