[6,7-Dichloro-2-(3-chloro-2-butenyl)-2,3-dihydro-1-oxo-2-propyl-1H-inden-5-yl]acetic acid (6 g, 0.0154 mole) dissolved in methylene chloride (65 ml) was added with rapid stirring to a mixture of H2SO4 (75 ml) and methylene chloride (35 ml) chilled in an ice bath. After stirring 1 hour at ice bath temperature the mixture was poured over ice and extracted with diethyl ether. The ether extracts were washed with water, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was recrystallized from butyl chloride to obtain the product mp 137°-9°.
